Northwest ABLE Resource Center: Alternative Portfolio Training

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALTERNATIVE TRAINING
THE PORTFOLIO SYSTEM

ABLE Practitioners:

We're glad to see you are interested in alternative delivery for the training entitled Portfolio: Connecting Policy & Practice. There are a few matters to be aware of in order to successfully complete the training. You must first register for this alternative training by going to the Resource Center calendar at http://mercury.educ.kent.edu/database/rcn/calendar_results.cfm and clicking on Alternative Delivery PD options.

The training packet consists of two parts. The first part is in electronic format and, except for the Portfolio handbook, you must download the information from your computer at www.nwable.org. The electronic file includes the following:

Outline for Portfolio alternative training
Current edition of the Portfolio: Connecting Policy and Practice handbook
Alternative Training Portfolio power point
Reflection chart for participants
A checklist for benchmarks by EFL's
A checklist for benchmarks by components
Scripts for two role plays: one on initial student conferencing and the second on conferencing to choose portfolio materials
A sample Standards Based Education (SBE) learning plan
Student reflection sheets

The second part of the training packet, mailed to you, includes a printed copy of Portfolio, Connecting Policy and Practice handbook, DVD for the role plays, and folders and documents necessary to complete the training.

The power point will guide you through the training and point out assignments that will be required if you are entitled to receive a stipend. Please return the materials that were mailed to you along with your assignments within one month of receiving them to NWRC, Owens Community College, PO Box 10,000, Toledo, Ohio 43699-1947.
